Project

SolidWorks is a market leading developer of 2D and 3D CAD (computer-aided design) software tools. SolidWorks came to IdentityMine with an existing WPF application, eDrawings Viewer, a 3D modeling software product. In conjunction with Microsoft, SolidWorks sought to make its eDrawings Viewer compatible and functional on the Microsoft Surface platform so that it can be demonstrated at the SolidWorks World 2009 International User Conference & Exposition, in Orlando, Florida.

Process

Partnering up with Microsoft, Identitymine successfully implemented eDrawings Viewer for Microsoft Surface in time for the conference. The team followed the IdentityMine Methodology process: strategy, envision, architecture, deliver, sustain – which aided in the project success.

The most significant aspect of this project was IdentityMine’s ability to provide SolidWorks with technology that easily integrated Microsoft Surface gestures into the SolidWorks WPF native application.

Success

At the SolidWorks World 2009 the eDrawings Viewer Surface application was a highlight of the show. The founder of SolidWorks, Jon Hirschtick, chose to highlight the eDrawings demo during his keynote. a triumph for the team that worked so hard to deliver the quality solution.

There was a lot of press around the success of the eDrawings demo, check out a few articles below. Since the ability to collaborate is a huge value added to the world of CAD, and a huge step in the right direction for users of the software, CADMagazine will also feature a story on the project.

SolidWorks was very happy with the results and will most likely reengage IdentityMine on further projects and phases for eDrawings Viewer.
