How to share a vast movie database with customers on the move?
The IMDb started as a hobby project by an international group of movie fans, essentially
something by movie fans for movie fans. Now it is a huge collection of movie information.
IMDb tries to catalog every pertinent detail about a movie, from who was in it,
to who made it, to trivia about it, to filming locations and even where you can
find reviews and fan sites on the web. Their energy is focused on creating a database
that is easy to search and use.
IMDb had created apps for other mobile devices, but they needed to find someone
who could translate this vast database into a mobile environment for Windows Phone
- and take content that is traditionally “straight from the database” and make
it visually interesting.

IMDb worked with Microsoft, who connected the company with IdentityMine, Inc. to
produce a mobile application for the Windows Phone platform that is easy to search,
sort, and engage with. IdentityMine applied the content to the Windows Phone Metro style

IdentityMine’s treatment of the imagery produced an application that is visually
lush and takes advantage of the Metro style, which doesn’t happen in the other hardware
versions of the app. Microsoft showcased the application at the launch of Windows
Phone 7, where it received rave reviews for both its fun user experience and stunning
visuals.
